Rings I Like

Y'all, I don't know why you even read my blog. Seriously. I never get around to read anyone's anymore, it seems. I feel really guilty about it. I promise I will get to it soon!!!! My life is just really bonkers right now!!!

Ok, so CN had major sticker shock when I sent these to him, but I figured I could at least show him my dream rings, right??? OMG I am beyond in love with Tacori rings....click on "multi-view" to get a better look.

Like this one.

And this one.

Or this one.

But I think this one is probably my favorite!!! Yeah, it's pretty safe to say that I'm obsessed with Tacori. Unfortunately, I will probably never get one. :(

I'm hoping we can find a Tacori-look-alike for a much smaller price. I know there are some Scott Kay ones out there that are similar and more affordable. And there's a jewelry store in town that is going out of business, so we are going tonight to go check it out. They are having a lot of great deals. (If anyone has any tips for buying good rings at a discount, please let me know!)

Basically, I want either a round or oval diamond, either a solitaire or a 3-stone, and I want an intricate band of some kind. I really like that Art Deco 1920s look. I want my ring to look antique. I don't care so much if it's white gold or platinum. Does that make any sense?

Also, to my female readers -- do you have a ring that has diamonds all the way around the band, or carving around the whole band? Because I really like the look, but I'm worried that it will irritate the insides of my fingers, and maybe I should have a band with all the stuff just on the top, so the underside of the band is smooth and non-irritating. I'm thinking long-term comfort, you know. :)

I didn't realize it, but it turns out that CN's mom doesn't have an engagement ring. She and her hubs just went and got married. But I suspect it may have been because it was the second marriage for both of them. Anyway, CN is so funny. He honestly thought engagement rings were like $800, including the wedding band and a decent-sized diamond. I guess you can tell he's never been engaged before, huh?

Poor CN. He had major sticker shock! LOL He was like, "That's the price, just for the setting???"

"Well, babe, you're supposed to spend 3 months salary, is what I've always heard," I replied.

"That's like.....a car!" he exclaimed.

"Yes, but I think that this is a much better investment, don't you? I mean, look at what you get!" I replied, trailing my hands over my body like a product model from The Price is Right. "It's a steal, really, if you think about it."

"Babe, I hate to tell you this, but it might be awhile before I can get one of those for you," he exclaimed. "With us moving...I'm going to have to save up for a while to get that."

After making some self-depricating jokes about how I guess I'm not worth it, he started laughing and telling me I'm crazy and silly. I told him that I will take whatever he can afford and that we can probably find something similar at a lower price. (My mom had the idea of maybe getting a big gemstone ring instead, which is an idea I like. I kind of want something different anyway. I saw a girl on tv once who got a pearl engagement ring. It was pretty cool.)

"Babe, the cost of the ring is not what's important to me. As long as it's a style I like, I'm good. I dont' want you to buy a big ring and then resent me for it later. I'll take what you can afford," I explained.

"You will? Cool!" he exclaimed. "Cubic zirconia from K-Mart it is!"

"That's not funny, CN."

Ok, I have totally been reading all your posts but have been too swamped to respond. This is great! The job, the ring, everything! I am super jealous. :)

My friend got married a few years ago and got a Tacori Ring. She actually had a blue sapphire for the big stone with a couple of diamonds on the sides in platinum with gold accents, and it has scroll work all around the band. She hasn't had any irritation problems. It's really pretty.

I, on the other hand, confirmed old spinster that I am STILL have my ring picked out and it's a doozy too http://www.jewelryexpert.com/catalog/Breathless-Asscher-Diamond-Ring.htm
hello expensive!!

But, you're right, the cost is not the important thing. i hope you find something that makes you both happy!

Do not get the stones that go all the way around. They will hurt the chit out of your fingers. But thats why you go and try them on! Have fun doing that!

Also, and this is my own personal opinion, I would take size over clarity any days. You dont have to have a white diamond. Take one that has slight color or slight inclusions...like, the step down ones. Mine is like that and you cant tell at all!

I kind of want you to call me so we can talk about all of this!

My husband and I were in our senior year of college when we got engaged. We spent $550 on my ring and thought that was a fortune (that was only 11 years ago!). Anyway, $550 is nothing, but we went for clarity instead of size. It was more important to us. We should have spent a little more but I love it so much. I think it's the thought more than the size (I'm talking strictly about diamonds, of course, haha). Anyway, those rings you've picked are so pretty! We talk about "upgrading" my ring for our anniversary one of these days. So, he doesn't have to spend a fortune now....he can add to it as the years go by. :) Have fun shopping!

My ring is a marquise cut and looks a lot bigger than it actually is. I think that is why I wanted it--and it was something I felt he could afford. (He told me that he would have gotten a MUCH bigger diamond if I wouldn't have shown him the one I liked.) As it is, he got me an eternity ring a few years ago, so I have my ring full of diamonds AND my original, too. Works for me!

Both my diamond set and my wedding ring had a 'brushed effect' on the surface. They really looked pretty--for about three years! They are completely smooth and shiny these days. So, my point is, if your get a decorative band, think about the wear and tear on it. Then again, you might be one of those people who take their rings off before doing any heavy cleaning, etc. I never did take my rings off until I got pregnant and HAD to.

I totally don't get the point of getting a ring that is THAT expensive. I mean, look at all the things you could buy instead?!?

And it's not even for marriage, but only for engagement? Holy shit.

I'm in shock too!

Those are beautiful rings. I love the idea of a large gemstone, it's very chic, modern and different.

Good luck looking at rings this weekend. How exciting! :)

Going in person to try rings on is a very good idea. Once I did that my likes/dislikes changed from what I thought I wanted.

I have small diamonds on the top of my bands but the bottom half is smooth and I like it that way.

This is so exciting! Keep us posted =)

My e ring is a princess cut solitare. I wasnt sure what I wanted for a wedding band, so we went and tried lots of rings on and I found what I liked. It was an Enhancer-makes my e-ring look like I have more bling. Plus it is balanced because there is a row of diamonds on each side.

Just look around and find something you like. I never knew what I wanted and now I wouldnt trade it for anything. It totally is the thought that counted.
